Seward Alaska Dispatch 1

Seward is one of Alaska’s oldest communities and also the gateway to one of the least visited national parks in the country – Fjords National park.

Last night Roberto and I traveled here from Anchorage. We ate at Rays Seafood and stayed at the Breeze Inn. The seafood chowder was highly recommended but, Pikes Market in Seattle is still my favorite.

This morning we were up and ready to go at 0530. Plenty of daylight all around as we still have not seen nighttime since arriving nearly a month ago to Alaska by motorcycles.

The cruise ship came in during the night sometime and some of the passengers are probably on board now.

We went looking for a breakfast place earlier but, non stop were open yet. Safeway grocery store and a hidden Starbucks within was where I finally found a good cup of Joe.

And at the deli they had fresh made breakfast egg and bacon burritos. Roberto couldn’t decide what to eat so I waited for him in Todds truck enjoying my coffee and burrito.

Sometime later he arrives with a full grocery bag of food and a cold bottle of Starbucks cappuccino. He opted for the donuts instead too instead of the hot burrito.

And then just like that it was already 0700 and time to check in for what I thought was a kayak tour that we were on but, it turned out to be a glacier trip.

Must’ve been a language thing for me or something like not listening entirely.

We saw this adventurer on an electric wakeboard taking a break, watching the glacier when we arrived.

The female Captain stepped out of her warm helm and I heard her say; where did he come from? I pointed nearby to an airplane on shore whose propeller was now pointing down onto the rocky shore tail end pointed skywards.

And there he goes again. Stellar sea lions now. Earlier it was sea otters with babies on their chests. And now puffins and eagles. And then we saw a pod of or as. They stayed with us until we got tired and left the area.

I just closed my eyes again and continued with my nap. The calving glaciers are what caught my attention, I made a video of it at the right time and caught it calving.

And still the guy riding around on his hoverboard wakeboard thingy thing is making his rescue time count by riding around the glacier.

The fog just moved in and the fresh baked cookies are now making me hungry.

When I get home I’ll have to scratch off another National Park from the poster in my garage.
