Subject: A Personal Note: Closing the Chapter on Trawlercat (With Gratitude)
Dear Family, Friends, and Fellow Travelers,
After some quiet reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to bring the Trawlercat blog to a gentle close.
I started it back in 2016, back when it was free and the writing came easy. Over the years the platform changed, the price climbed to $99 a year, and my own path kept shifting.
What began with jetskis and racing evolved into long-distance motorcycle rides, sails, power boats, and plenty of worthwhile detours in between—including running a marathon in Bangkok, Thailand, and riding a jet ski with friends all the way out to Kodiak Island and beyond for over a thousand miles.
More recently I shared stories from Buenos Aires—teaching English in the slums and soaking up moments that felt meaningful at the time. I’m glad you were along for those.
It was fun while it lasted, much like the early days of Facebook when everything felt fresh and worth sharing. But at 70, I’ve come to realize I don’t need to keep doing things just because I always have. The habit of documenting every mile or every project has quietly run its course.
These days my priorities are simpler and, if I’m honest, more satisfying: something worthwhile to do, something to look forward to, and someone to love—especially Patti, our family, and the grandkids. I still have adventures and projects that light me up; I just no longer feel the need to turn every one of them into a post.
The old stories will remain up on Trawlercat.com for as long as the site stays online. No new updates, though. This chapter ends here.
Thank you, sincerely, for reading, for commenting, and for riding along with me all these years. Your support meant more than you know—it was my version of throttle therapy.
Wishing you smooth roads, fair winds, and plenty of joy in whatever chapter you’re writing right now.
With real appreciation,
Ralph
