Today is 12/7/2022, a date which will live in infamy back in 1941, when the US of A was attacked by the naval and air forces of Japan. And now let me start off by declaring that there’s a certain level of peace that comes when you reach a certain age. I am now that age. My words now might just be the Costa Rican expresso talking. Thank you Johann for that most excellent Costa Rica expresso. I am literally in high gear even though I’m not moving.

So why are eleven manly men here in Costa Rica in the month of December? The answer is easy. For some, to escape a routine, for others to ride this Central American continent that we may never ever get a chance to do so in this lifetime.
For others the desire is to see places and experience roads and trails that we couldn’t possibly do on our own. To see what locals see and then experience it through their eyes. In the words of Anthony Bourdain- “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it even hurts, or it breaks your heart. But that’s OK.

The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and sometimes on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

I’m extremely grateful for the ten guys riding ahead or behind me in Costa Rica on this truly Ultimate Riding motorcycle adventure. Thank you Yoda Roberto, thank you Yoda Heiner and thank you Kevin for making this trip possible. And one more thank you Patti for giving me this wonderful gift.
I’ve been together with like minded guys whom I never would’ve met were it not for riding motorcycles in Costa Rica.

You ladies should know that sometime in their lifetime your middle aged man will also go through this same metaphorical process (similar to life is a highway) to go find themselves.
If you let us do so on a proper motorcycle ride adventure then you too will be well rewarded when we return.
If you don’t; then we could easily come up with other destructive behaviors like buying too many motorcycles and not using them or simply becoming couch potatoes or possibly worse.

Today is a rest day from riding for some. Six of the eleven in the group chose to go on a white water rafting expedition. Several chose to ride more motorcycles and possibly one chose to do his own laundry.
“When I die, I will decidedly not be regretting missed opportunities for a good time. My regrets will be more along the lines of a sad list of people hurt, people let down, assets wasted, and advantages squandered.” A. Bourdain
