Sierra 6 – The Open Road – A Motocamping Road Trip Experience/Cancelled/Covid 19

A “hankering” to hit the open road – again. Yes, it’s a real word and no people don’t usually use it anymore. The word means to have a strong desire for something.

As of two weeks before the start of our ride planned for September 12th 2020, including myself we have four riders. A Covid 19 safe number, plus we are planning on Moto camping all the way.

GPSKEVIN supplied the itinerary for a ride skirting six major National Forests.

THE PLANNING: Replaced my tires. Check. Assembled my motocamping gear. Check. Summer wear riding gear. Check. Covid 19 safe riding buddies. Check.

THE ITINERARY

Day 1, 9-12-20: Home to: Oakhurst California xxx miles
Lodging. Camping at xxx

Day 2, 9-6-20:

Idaho Falls, ID 463 miles

A low-key National park tour odyssey. A ride to sort of soothe the mind, for some maybe just a mad dash to just pound out the miles.

Anyone riding a motorcycle just needs a good destination. It’s not enough merely to ride; a goal, a mecca, a terminus worthy of the inherent rigors is needed…”

I EVEN PLANNED MY STORY- IT WENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

At XXX on a Friday morning I planned on kissing my wife goodbye, patting Lucy our chocolate lab on the head, and riding off with friends.

And so off I go into a hot and gloriously sunny morning. Just outside of Eastvale I stop to install my earplugs to ward off total deafness on this planned week long ride.

After five minutes, I stop and take them out. They work too well; I couldn’t hear a thing.

They made riding surreal, and eerily quiet. For all I knew, my exhaust header had fallen off, and a broken rod was hammering my block to pieces.

I now began to fantasize engine and chassis noises, much the way someone wearing stereo headphones.

BUT THE RIDE WAS CANCELLED ON

And so our emails and conversations go back and forth as to what options do we now have:

Sure. We are discussing a new route due to the Creek Fire. We might postpone the Sierra ride and ride up the coast instead.
