On the Camino and a little music again…..

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing  absolutely nothing — half so much worth as “music” when walking an extremely boring part of the camino or an an uphill-climb. The word “boring” can also be taken with a grain of salt.

Simply talking ……….about walking — or talking with a fellow Peregrino about the nexts day walk – but, wait. It’s not really like that around here. Just started the story with a boating quote and writing a story about the camino and music just took hold and gave me the inspiration.

Simply put, when no one else is around I like to openly play my IPhone music out loud. Just the act of it, easily transforms me as if now my body is on autopilot, without so much as a care in the world; any walking pain, long boring stretches, nasty ugly rock road I’m now walking on – is simply put on hold.

On the camino no matter the nationality of the person, everyone loves American music. Eventually someone you are walking with may even suggest a good walking song.
The 500 mile song makesthe top of the list-followed by the 25 mile song followed by my all time favorite on account of the words is Vida La Vida by Coldplay.

I began calling it my Medieval music.

The lyrics:

“I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing

“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key

Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
Once you go there was never
never an honest word

And that was when I ruled the world”
